I am trying to wire up the trim sender. at the sender i have a tan/white and a black. The trim gauge has one sender terminal. I have the factory manual, but it doesnt say what the wires are. I am guessing the tan/white is the sender wire. The black i am not sure of. what is the correct way to hook this up? Thanks

Purple wire off the ignition to 'I', tan and white from the sender to 'S'. Black and tan to 'G'.

Thanks for the reply. what is the purpose of each wire? the tan/white is the sender wire. what is the black/tan? is it a ground? 12v pos? i guess i would ask how the sender works.

Functional wires of the guage are the purple "I", positve wire, and the tan and white "S" Sender negative wire.

The sender works much like the sender in a gas tank; it uses a variable resistor.

Most of the variable resistors use a long fine wire that has been wound into a coil, with one end running to the guage. A grounded wiper moves back and forth across the coil as the arm is moved. The further from the guage end of the coil the grounded wiper is, the less current flows.

If you want the light to work, you need a ground "G" and another positive lead coming from the light switch.
