Thinking of buying one that has little use for 500. I want to make sure its a short shaft. The seller doesn't know anything about outboards. All I have is a picture to go buy. Thanks.

A long shaft would have a 5-inch extension bolted between the exhaust housing and lower unit - pretty apparent if you have a pic of the lower end...

It would also be J8RLCDE unless it was standard ( 15") model that had been modified at some time. L in the modl number = long shaft (20"

You can always measure it if you are uncertain but as said the 5" extension is pretty obvious in a 20" model

The E is a production suffix. Quote the whole number when order spares but other wise ignore the E
