The lower unit was leaking and the oil was milky.

I took the lower unit apart, where the shaft goes into the lower unit it looks like there was suppose to be a seal?

There was rubber pieces there. There are about six-eight hole on the side of the lower unit just under the fin/lip.

What is suppose to go there?
Where can I get it?

Also: Are there suppose to be gaskets/seals under the mating parts?

IE...

Lower unit to shaft?
Bracket that holds shaft in place over where I found the rubber pieces?

I hope this makes since....Please Help I have a boat with no motor now= No FISHING!

Ok, we will give you the ole benfit of doubt. How can you expect anyone to help you if you they don't know what your talking about. First, ID the motor and the year then try and find a parts breakdown which will show you exactly what goes where on the shaft. It may be some line or who knows got wrapped around the shaft and destroyed the outer seal ( would explain the milky fluid ). One thing for sure, at one time water mixed with the fluid or you would have clear lubricant. Post the above data asked for and you'll find you will have a whole bunch of people ready willing and with tons of knowledge able to help you.

Good Luck

First, ID the motor and the year I was told by another member on this forum it was a 1969 Cheif? Not real sure. The number plate is chewed up.then try and find a parts breakdown which will show you exactly what goes where on the shaft. I have been looking for a manual for this motor to no avail. It may be some line or who knows got wrapped around the shaft and destroyed the outer seal ( would explain the milky fluid ). We can help you best if we all know what motor you have. If there aren't any ID numbers left on the motor, can you post a photo of it? I think Chief outboards were made by Clinton, but not sure.

Chief outboards were made by clinton, Look up clinton outboards on e-bay and a guy there has manuals for sale on disc. If I remember correctly the persons name is Sanfords goods or some name like that.

That sounds good.

I did call Discount marine parts, or something like that? And found out for sure that it is a Clinton 5 hp motor. The year is kind of fuzzy, the serial # does not match with what their website say's it should.

I can get seal kit for the lower unit and a carb kit for around 50 bucks.

I read somewhere online that the older motors use to use gear grease not oil.
It said I could use 105 or 115 Lubriplate.

Have any of you guys heard this before? I know that grease holds up with water, but not sure other than that. They do not mix, water just beads off of grease.

Re: J9 1101...

The Clinton uses regular outboard gear lube. Yes some older outboards use grease and 105 is the modern replacement. The Clinton and Eska motors
can be difficult patients refusing to run right 2 days in a row.You may want to keep that in mind when investing time and money.
