I remember when this forum strongly advised-requested that each new topic thread start off with the model # of the engine in question. Back when TD was still around. Wow. Gettin old. Anyway, on to the problem at hand. I'm resurrecting an '84 90 hp V4 that hasn't run in at least 11 years. The price was right. I couldn't find an answer in archives. The water pump impeller is frozen to the drive shaft. I'm currently soaking in PB, respraying every day or so. If this approach doesn't free the old impleller up, what about heat? At this point I'm concerned that heat would damage the seal under the impeller. Thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks in advance. Kevin.

Take some wood dowel / screwdriver and a hammer.----Try and bump it in both directions.----That will loosen it up.

Similar to "racer's" method...... I'd just belt that impeller right between the blades sideways close to the hub, back & forth.

If neither method looses it, cut the rubber off on the keyway side, then split the metal hub with a sharp chisel.

DO NOT use heat in that area.

Thanks guys. I've not been a regular here for a long time. The advice I got here kept my 60hp Inline 3 running well for years.Even helped me rebuild it after it sank in saltwater. It's kinda nice to recognize names that have been the backbone of this forum for a long time.I'll beat on it for a little bit, and split it if I have to. No heat, Joe. Got it. Thanks again. The carbs are clean. Ultra sonic cleaner and pine sol clean. It's a time and money thing. But ain't they all?

Go easy with the chisel - I ruined a driveshaft once when I was a little too overzealous with the hammer hitting the chisel. Gashed the driveshaft enough that I was afraid it might cause a weak spot and lead to it shearing off at some point.
