Hello IBOATS forum, I have some questions maybe I can get some resolve on these issues. I recently bought a 1969 Wellcraft 17 ft. runabout 20 in. outboard transom. My 115 Johnson is a 25 in. so I have a Bob's 5 in. jack plate on. The plate is extended all the way and the the motor mounting holes are also as high as I can mount them. Now, the bottom plate on outboard(cavitation plate) is just about 1/4 in.- 1/2 in. above pad and about 12 in. from drain hole,, almost in line with the keel. I'll try to post some pics. I'm going to take for a test ride this week and see how it all works. My question is.. does this sound alright or should I tighten the whole configuration up and just build up the transom higher? Also is having the plate and bracket adjusted to full height too much pull on the transom leverage wise? Thanks in advance I would like to catch some end of the season fishing, This forum is great.Bill on LI.

Re: jack plate drama

if the transom is solid, it should be ok. sounds like you mounted the jack plate low. you should be 1 - 1 1/2 inches above the pad, with 12 inch setback.

Watch out that you are not so high that you get out of the water with the water pickup.
That can and will happen if you raise your engine too high.
