Hey guys, I have a 1990 Alumaweld 16' semi v bass boat, and I am in the process of rebuilding everything and making it into a flats fishing boat. I basically tore out all the carpet, and I'm going to just paint the inside, and will probably end up adding a poling platform, etc.
Because I will be running in the flats, I want to run in as skinny of water as possible. It's got a 1989 Yamaha 40hp (3 cylinder) with manual tilt and remote steering. I want to add a jack plate but I'm not entirely sure what I should get as there are so many options. I am looking at the manual jack plates since I don't need a power/hydraulic one.
Do you recommend installing a jack plate on a (semi) flat bottom aluminum boat, or will it mess up the steering really bad? I'm looking at getting the most offset as possible (10"-12") so that I can bring the motor up as much as possible; is that too much for my application? Any other recommendations/comments? I just want to be able to run fast and hard on the dew in my backyard lawn... just kidding...
