Jack Plate or Tilt and Trim

I have a 15' modified V with a 48 SPL on it. It has an aftermarket jackplate on. It does not have power tilt and trim. The manual tilt cylinder is bad and needs to be replaced.
I am considering removing the jack plate and putting a CMC tilt and trim on it.
I would like feedback on which will provide me the most benefit for my boat performance.
I do fish in the local bays and do enter shallow water at times. Would I be better off with the jack plate to get the whole motor up or with the tilt and trim.

Thanks,
RW

I don't think any one thing optimizes outboard performance more than an ideal trim setting for the load and balance at the time. Setback helps, optimized height helps.

For your situation I would go for the CMC unit.

My opinion is that trim and tilt is more important to everyday operation than a jack plate. With the CMC your going to get the setback feature of a jack plate also. You won't have the ease of height variation but many people get by just fine without a jack plate. But without a tilt trim your having to compromise performance and holeshot everytime you crank the motor. Your also having to manually raise and lower the motor to trailer and that gets old. And only a hydraulic jack plate is going to give you height adjustment on the fly. Anything other then hydraulic is just a tuning feature. You can tune motor height without a jack plate.

In order of importance:

Tilt/Trim
Setback
Hyd. Jackplate

(jackplates toss in the setback you need by themselves sometimes)

Ditto. Actually I don't think you can realize the performance advantage of setback/jackplate, for boats that are hull shaped to respond, without TT.

Having started out without anything and then being able to afford tilt and finally TT, I will not buy a rig without it. It's just too convenient, really, necessary.

Thanks guys, I was leaning toward the tilt and trim. It has a CNC Jack plate on it now. I am doing a rebuild on the whole set up. I think I will go with the concensus here and remove the jack plate and put a CNC tilt and trim.
Thanks for all the input.
