Not sure if this is the right forum but...

I've got a 16ft arkansas traveler and 1957 evinrude 35hp.

The transom is 16" and the motor is 23".

I've only had the pair out once and had a starter problem (that's fixed) so I'm wondering how well this will work.

1. Will it be a problem? Could the handling be dangerously affected?

2. Are there downsides to using a jack plate?

3. If I get my hands on a short shaft from the same era should I swap out the lower end? Is that difficult to do? It will still be 3" higher than it should be. So maybe that's a waste of time if I need to make a jack plate anyway.

Thanks!

Re: Jack plate vs shaft swap

Make your own Jack Plate. It will be cheaper and easier in the long run.
