1984 Stratos 375V, my guess on loaded weight 2800-3000, pad hull. What advanage would a jack plate be to preformance enhancement?

Probably faster, more efficient, ability to run shallower, cleaner bite for the prop, helps with bow lift, ability to take advantage of a better prop, etc.

Depends upon the engine size. Bigger engine, more performance gain. However, don't expect to double your speed. Generally, a jackplate will set back the engine into cleaner water coming off the transom. You will be able to run the engine higher for less drag and there is more leverage to get the bow up (less hull in the water), however, you will also need to experiment with props to get the correct combination. Don't expect to just bolt on a plate and bingo--10 MPH more. you need to experiment with both height and props. You may need an aggressive cup if you do not already have one. A power jackplate is much more handy if you can afford or want to spend the extra bucks.

This engine is fully jacked-up on the transom (tunnel hull, no jackplate) and has a VERY aggressivly cupped prop to keep it from blowing out. I experimented with about 4-5 different heights before I hit the correct one. 1/4 inch height difference makes about 3-4 MPH difference.
