i m thinking of buying a jack plate.1998 tr 17 Triton 120 force motor bass boat .what going to be expected by adding this?is going to be worth the money is going to effect handling. I'm not so much concern with speed 50 mph is fast enough for me.i just would like to know if this is worth th money. :) :) :) :) :)

Re: jack plate?

In most all cases I have seen, it helps the handling, allows you to fine-tune to any prop you run.
I would expect "some" speed gain which will equate to better fuel milage.
Is it worth it??? well, that depends on what it is you would "expect" from it...
50MPH isn't really "fast" for a 17ft Bassboat, and with a jackplate, be willing to test many other props...the C.G. changes, and so does the ride.
If you're looking at plates, take a serious look at a Bob's machine plate.....it should cover anything you want.
The convertable plate from Bob's might be the best option.

Re: jack plate?

Maybe Im raining on a parade here, but I dont see the reason or the expence on this particular set-up. We are looking at a 17 boat with maybe 100 HP from what I have heard about the Force engines. Sure it may help a tad bit, but if you are happy with your performance the way it is, I would suggest using the money for a set of Smart Tabs. A lot less work, and I beleive a lot more performance to gain. JMHO.

far from fact I had friend of mine with 120 force reworked with merk parts say his would top 70 I think he might have streched it a little, but he said with right prop it would do it,I know with three good sized guys it did 50 in clearing out the motor because i was in it.

LD, that's why I asked, "what is expected"...
To you and I, 1 to 2MPH is a big gain..to some, it isn't worth the trouble...but for those willing to find the right combination, well...you know what can happen. :)

The hyd jackplate will be awsome you can fine tune while your running down the lake.i think you'll be happy with it.

Re: jack plate?

Well, if you have the extra money with nothing to do with it, then go for it, there was a time that I would have likely done the same thing. Play with what ya got, just remember to watch your water preasure. Oh, did anyone think to tell you that you HAVE to have a water preasure guage if you install a jack plate? Also you need to check to make sure your steering and cables will be long enough.
