Hi, I'm seeking advice on a cheap, lightweight jackplate to lift my 1973 20hp Mercury200 about 4 inches. The motor will be mounted on a 1436 Jon Boat and just really need something to lift it up about 4 inches. Cheaper is always better...
You may be able to beat those prices if you shop around. I have not built one by these plans but have made similar devices. I would use SS grade for fasteners and exterior grade plywood that has been sealed on all surfaces including the edges for the motor board. You should be able to do this for under $100.00. Since you are not racing, the fully-adjustable slots in the plans may not be necessary. Just drill a series of adjustment holes to give you the motor height setting you desire. In fact, you might not need to drill more than one set of holes depending on how your motor likes that new position. Every boat/motor combination is a little different. The "trial and error method" applies to this situation. Good luck!
