Jack Plate?

Hey guys i have an 06 16' Sea Chaser it's considered a flats boat and does decently well when running through the flats but i have a problem getting on a plane after being on the flats i can get in but have to idle out. I was contemplating a jack plate for the 90hp E-tec to give it some height and help with the drafting issue. Has anyone seen or heard of a sea chaser owner with a plate and how they perform. Or honestly any advice on jack plates in general i've herad some people say it wont make a bit of difference on a boat without a tunnel hull.

Re: Jack Plate?

It's rare to see any type of flats boat around here without a jackplate. However, the shorter the boat the less setback you need. In some cases any setback on a 16 causes handling issues.

Re: Jack Plate?

Dhadley thanks for the info i was thinking a smaller JP like only 3-5 inches of setback and 3-8 inches of lift. My so called flats boat is more like a Bay Craft it drafts 8" but will not get on a plain at 8" i was just looking to improve my hole shot and i have looked into a 4 blade but just like everyone else in the boating world why not try more. Thanks again!
