Jammed Throttle

Everything is running great on my 1978 Evinrude AMF Crestliner except the throttle. I had it in neutral and was starting it after a full day of driving on the water, the warm up lever was up. I put the lever down and put the throttle down (forward) to pump some gas in and when I pulled it up, something came out of track and now will not go into netrual. The warmup lever will move like normal but the throttle is stuck in gear and it won't go back, not even to reverse but it will go forward normally. It's the original throttle mechanism so I was wondering if anyone has a parts breakdown of that model so I can see what parts will fly out if I take it apart. This is my first boat and I want to try and keep it as original as possible because she is a beaut.

Re: Jammed Throttle

disconnect at the motor and try them. could be a cable finally went, or a bushing. you can go to brp-evinrude.com literature, engine diagrams, accessories. there is a complete diagram of the control.

Re: Jammed Throttle

Thanks. I was able to find a breakdown off of the website you suggested. Also, I disconnected the cables and they seem to be ok. I was able to take off the throttle and the warm up lever but can't seem to get the rest of the front casing off. It feels something came loose and jammed up in there somewhere. Do you know of this happening before?
