JB,

I just wanted to say thanks for your help. I appreciate your kindness in taking the time to discuss my situation (Honda/Merc repower).

I noticed that you make many contributions to this site recommending either the Suzuki or Johnson engine.

Would you be so kind enough to discuss your level of expertise regarding these engines? Are you a mechanic? Boat Dealer? Engineer? Gear Head?

I believe this forum appreciates all of your contributions and would like to know more about where the information comes from.

Once again, thank you for your time and Happy Holidays!

- Mike

Re: JB - Happy Holidays

Hello, Maillon.

Happy Holidays to you, too.

My formal education is as a BSEE, MBA and Adult Educator.

I have had a lifelong (long life, too. :) )love affair with machinery of many kinds. I briefly made a living building and racing karts and stock cars, but most of the time I taught and wrote about both technical and non-technical subjects.

I have built and maintained many outboards, mostly OMC, but only moonlighted as a Marine Wrench. I have nothing like the amount of hands-on experience of many of our career experts, though OMC once hired me to train their best Dealer Instructors in troubleshooting techniques.

If it has an engine; 2 stroke, 4 stroke, Diesel, one or many cylinders, I have probably put a wrench on it.

Gearhead? You bet. Motorhead? That too.

My advocacy of the Suzuki-made 4 strokes is based mostly on the research I did before I bought one and my experience with that engine, but includes input I have gotten from dozens of other happy Suzi owners.
