jet boat hulls

I run an outboard jet in extremely skinny water, the delaware and susquahanna rivers. I thoroughly trashed my first 16' Roughneck tunnel, even sunk it once. I'm considering a new 18' 6 degree V-hull with a 80 HP jet. this hull is offered with a dealer installed 3/8 or 3/4" polycarbonate plastic armor screwed to the exterior of the hull. The plastic is super slippery and is actually bouyant. It looks pretty awesome, but all those screws thru the hull scare me. Has anyone ever seen this type of set-up? If so, whadda ya think?

Thanks,
John

I don't like the screws thru the hull either...what we used on al hull years ago was a paint loaded with graphite, don't remember what it is called but it would slide over rocks very well. Today my jet boat only has a heavy guage hull and that seems to work for me ok...would be nice if it was slippery tho...just a Thought

Crab, I bet it was Hall's Marine from Harrisburg that showed you that boat. Right? They're the only guys I've ever seen with that set-up. They do seem to be the most knowledgable jet guys I've met, especially when it comes to very shallow water applications. Well, its gotta be way better than the underpowered lead sled I've been running for the last 8 years. I'm going for it.

John
