I was wondering how many guys on iboats are running jet units? After getting stuck on my local rivermouth bar a few times in my longshaft bayliner/maxim, I decided to buy a Jet boat and hit the surf in that instead. I'm running a 350 chev bolted on to 2 stage hamilton jet. The hull is 15 ft. A new hull is on order and we'll go out to 19 ft but stay with the same powerplant. For shallow bar work and power in the surf the jet/v8 combo seems unrivaled.

Re: Jet boats.......

I have a couple jet boats for shallow river running here in Alaska. With the exception of an Air boat, there is no comparison as far as accessing low or marginal water. I can take a fully loaded 21' jet boat upstream in approximately 8" of water all day long..Occasional traverses of much less water as long as I am on step and have some speed built up. I have also ran the combination hull in blue water up here. The hull design lends itself mostly to rivers, but the jet unit performs well.

14 ft Almar Lite, 6ft Beam, 30 inch gunnels with
a 90HP OB Pump set 18 inches off the back on a
CMC transom jack closed bow sled set up like a
bass boat. 1700 lbs with a full tank.
It would be hard to go back to a prop
At a dead stop
or trolling it only draws 9 inches of water and
thats only the last 4 feet of the boat the rest
of the boat is like 2-3 inches.
Bet there a lot of us out there!
Air Boat...now thats something I'd like to try
sometime! :) :)
