Jet Boats

I see alot of Jet Boats on Craigs. The look cool, fast, and sound sexy. In all reality it wouldn't be practical for my Wife and 3 Boys 7, 11, 15. This would be my Single guy boat if I wasn't married. From my short time browsing this forum I do not see a whole lot of Jet Boat owners. I would love to rip up the lake in one. Any way are jet boats not very popular anymore? How come so many are for sale? Maybe because they drink gas like there is no tomorrow.

they deal a lot in jet drives. All the parts are still available, they are cool, not practical like you point out, but they have their place and still have a very loyal following.

Quite a few shops in AZ and southern NV

Yes, lakes, states etc. They are not "prevented" as you can buy muffler tips that take care of it. I have a 6.2 I/O thru transom with no mufflers and it passed at Havasu a few years back, there is no difference between this setup and a jet as far as noise and exhaust style is concerned. Many of the earlier jets were 454s, 455s and 460s with over the transom headers. These are especially loud, but can be quieted.

Lots of older jest in AZ and CA for running on the river sections. Nowhere near as popular now and especially on the Lakes as there is no real benefit to them except very low maintenance.

i have several plans for building one and slobber all over myself every time i look at them.
aluminum hull, roll bar, 454 and jet, outstanding!!!

The Riggins race a fun, every year we run safety and chase boats there. The other one in Idaho is the Jerome Riggata, fast and furious, different type of jet boat but a heck of a lot of fun and boats at well over 100 mph on the Snake River.

When stuff goes wrong, it goes wrong fast and big!

Why not buy a used jet boat really cheap and replace the uneconomical jet-drive unit with a surface-drive propellor unit like this:
