Well was redoing my carb rebuilld according to tashas responses to others, and it appears someone beat me to it. I had gotten all jets out and cleaned them and put them back in so I wouldn't get them messed up with the others. The tool I built is like the one they say to build. I got undo the top carb jet in the very front and nothing. I then take one of those things you have lookin ears with a light and see taht the dern thing is buggered up. How do I get the jet out now? The screw slots have been messed up and I'm guessing is the reason for the bad idle, Since that appeasrs to be an idling jet. Any suggestions to get it out?

Thanks for the ideas.

Re: Jet messed up

That's what can happen if you don't remove the jets with the proper tool. Ugh, that's a pain to deal with too. You could try a left-handed bit, but damn you'd better be dead on the money. What carb body are you working on? Could be myself or another on this forum can offer up a rebuildable carb if it turns out you need one.

Edit: I suppose you could try a dab of super-glue on the tool tip and see if you can get it to bond with the buggered up jet. Acetone will undo any mishaps that might happen.

Thanks, I don't know about the carb body, I will have to get the numbers off it. Do you think it would be possible to take a sharp pointed instrument that is the same diameter of the outside, and gently tapin some new grooves?

What happens to those jets is that the ears bend out and they stick in the channel. You'll need some kind of technique that doesn't put any more pressure on the tops of the jet.

Re: Jet messed up

i had this problem and what i did was, take a large flat head screw driver and a bench grinder. use the grinder to lessen the diameter of the screw driver shaft all the way around it and the width of blade as necessary. you can fashion it to fit down in there and get the jet out. two ways to look at your screwdriver.... you lose a screwdriver or you gain a new tool. follow up and let us know if this is possible for you. If you do not have a bench grinder or something similar, you can get an el cheapo for about $25- $40. if it save you a headache or even a wasted day of FN with it, it is worth it

roo, that's how you make the special jet removal tool. Problem is when someone DOESN'T make this tool and just uses a screwdriver, the jet gets all bent up and it's damned hard to get it out.

Jets can be cleaned without removing them when necessary. However, one needs to know exactly what jet you're speaking of (exactly where it's located), and what engine you're speaking of. Model number?

Re: Jet messed up

Thanks all, Joe its the55975c motor. Its the top jet in the very front. Its the only jet accesible from the front once you put the air box on. Its in the peak. I'm thinking that this messed up jet has been my problem with idle as I've got everything dialed in just still a little rough and I figured I might try to get this fixed. Anything taht would effectively work would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Jet messed up

That's a little confusing. Once the carburetor face plate is installed, the top front jet is not accessible. The only jet that would be accessible would be the top starboard side jet.

I need to know which of the two top jets you're speaking of, and also which carburetor as the jets vary between the two.

Re: Jet messed up

Thanks Joe. However on my card there is a place to accesss the top jet part #0324698 orifice idele intermediate idle. IF you look @ part0322088 base air silencer it does have cut outs to reach the top jet. I'm using the daig on http://shop2.evinrude.com and the 55 HP 1979 55975. This is the top carb also. Thanks joe and others for the timely responses.

Re: Jet messed up

Okay.... That would need a .037 drill bit to return the jet to its specified ID size. Best to remove that core plug (202310) also in order to reverse blow that area out thoroughly.

Re: Jet messed up

Thanks joe, can you think of any reason to remove the jet, or just get a .037 drill bit and dril it out? Thanks for the response on this.

Re: Jet messed up

If it's damaged as bad as I visualize, I wouldn't chance trying to remove it for fear of destroying the carburetor. I'd clean it where it is.
