Jetting for Elevation on 1996 Johnson150?

Hello All,

I moved from Houston to Albuquerque, NM and wanted input on the need to re-jet the carbs on my 150 Johnson. Houston was basically sea level, and NM lakes are 3,000 ft +. I haven't ran the boat yet, I have it with a mechanic for some make-ready after a 6 year storage.

SO, will I need to change anything?

You can check the parts breakdown for your carbs and see if there are any other jets listed for your motor.

Ron, You need to check with a dealer to see if you actually need to change the jets for 3K feet. The Mercs are set up for 0-5K feet, before rejetting is required, but I don't know if that is the same for the Johnnyrudes.

above 5,000 ft you may have problems. but 3,000 should be OK.

If you plan to boat in northern NM, get the carbs rejetted. The lake elevations exceed 5000 ft MSL for most. My family had a boat business in Tesuque and very few motors weren't rejetted (basically only those that fished way south and sea level in TX and Mexico.)
