I'll bite Pointer. How do you spell Carter? B-U-F-F-O-O-N.

The poster boy of the Left is clueless. The sad part is that he is also dangerous. What happened to the day when former Presidents had the character to keep their mouths shut, realizing they had had their day in the limelite?

Oh, I forgot, his light was black!!

Very interesting.

I think thet Jimmy has completely lost it.

I recently heard a comparison of his latest rantings, to those of former Klan leader David Duke.

Both were uttering almost identical opinions about Israel.

That's unfortunate, and I'm a little surprised at Carter's reaction.

It is likely that there is fault on both sides in that dispute, and that Dershowitz generally presents reasoned rational arguments in a debate setting, whether you agree with him or not.
Healthy, honest debate is always a good thing, and Carter knows it. I'd be really curious what the "real" reason Carter did not want to participate.

Re: Jimmy, no guts

The question is does he really know it PW? Or is a challenging debate with a skilled opponent in what probably would be a somewhat hostile environment (possibly) not something he is willing to take up? It looks like cowardise in its purist form. He had all but committed to attend until he heard Dershowitz was going to be there. Wouldn't this be the ideal situation to show the rationality and superior wisdom of Carter's position?

I guess open and free exchanges of ideas are only a good idea when you have a group of trained seals mindlessly clapping after every word one says. Perhaps the UN can make a little time for and provide a venue Jimmy to stop by and set the rest of us straight.

Thanks for your contribution Haut. Since you brought it up can you please point to the last liberal shouted down on a college campus? Exactly what danger was Carter in? I would be happy to supply a list of conservatives whose views couldn't be shared due to liberal, freedom of speech advocates accosting, verbally abusing, and filibustering an oppositions point of view. Even with your position in the political spectrum, you have to admit the double standard applied in this area. :'(

I ain't backing Jimmy up.....
What's the old saying?
Better to keep your mouth shut & look the fool....
Than open it & remove all doubt.....
I think Jimmy is going with that....
& a wise choice at that.....
Dershowitz would probably debate circles around him....
& Jimmy is probably losing it anyway.....
He's like a trillion years old!......

Lets see President Carter is 82 years old, Alan Dershowitz is a 68-year-old skilled Criminal Lawyer, and you’re calling Carter a coward for not debating. I believe if he did debate Mr. Dershowitz, and he were my family I would think that he in the early stages of Alzheimer’s.

If Carter has the temerity to utter his nonesense publicly then it is his rightful duty to engage in a reasonable dialogue about it. He does, you know, profess to have the interest of the American public at heart. Would there be a better way to show that he walks the walk?

It just plain and simple is not the Liberal Way. Throw the BS and then hide. Your favorite witch is a master at that as well!:%

This is one of those things that is very perplexing to me. Why have no free speach advocates on the left helped stop this particularly disturbing behavior?

If he is not willing to debate controversial topics, he should not write books about them.
I too am not defending Carter, nor have I read his book or understand his arguments.

I do think this country tends to take Israel's side in every dispute in kind of a knee-jerk response, and I doubt if Israel is completely blameless over the years. If we are ever to negotiate and achieve some sort of a peace settlement over there, it's going to be done by some sort of honest broker, and not jammed down either party's throats.

Whatever you think of his politics, Carter is no dummy and my hunch is he knows his arguments in this case have serious flaws for whatever reason. I seriously doubt his reluctance is based in cowardice--more likely it is based on knowledge and reality. Again I am not defending Carter, and if he is knowingly presenting a flawed argument, I don't know what the reason is, and I suspect I don't want to know.

It's too bad as we could use an honest broker, and it seems clear we are not going to get it from the current administration

It is really only perplexing at first glance QC. It is simply another example of a Liberal Slogan with no substance. The left does not dare to allow it's ideas to be scrutinized and challanged.

IMHO it is no different than the Communist's slogans about power to the people!

Re: Jimmy, no guts

I guess I am confused (which happens sometimes). What exactly qualifies an attorny who has worked with garbage like OJ Simpson to debate something as profound as the difficulties in Isreal? Carter is Carter, and lord knows he is not perfect by any strech of the imagination, but I just don't see a functional purpose for him, as a former president who has at least had actual dealings in the Isreal situation, to debate this person. Someone please help me out on this, is there something I am missing? Forget lefty vs righty, what qualifies Durchowitz to debate on this subject?.

Actually that is not my point of view at all, but will be glad to defend him on the merits of his character after leaving the Presidency. I have posted on this board several times, that I thought his presidency was one of the worst of the twentieth century. It was so bad that I voted for President Reagan twice.

I am a defender of Israel, and think that it is critical to have at least one friend in the Middle East that we” haven’t alienated.” Now that is out of the way, let’s compare him to what we have leading us now , especially when it comes to calling Past Presidents no guts/cowards. Shall we compare?

Education=

He attended Georgia Southwestern College and Georgia Institute of Technology and received a Bachelor of Science degree from the United States Naval Academy in 1946. Carter was a gifted student and finished 59th out of his Academy class of 820.Wow looks like the top part of his class to me. Georgia Institute of Technology, 1942-1943;
United States Naval Academy, 1943-1946 (class of 1947);
Union College, 1952-1953I

It seems that he was in the top ten percent of his class at most of his schools.
I can here the typical chicken hawk mantra now, what about the military, was he in it? Thats what judges a mans Guts, isn’t it?
Military record=

Carter was admitted to Annapolis in 1943 and graduated in the top ten percent of his class in August 1946, just after the end of the war.

Damn there he went and did it again, top ten percent of the class. Well that don’t mean Dxxk, there wasn’t a war going on, don’t take guts to go to the Academy does it.

Seems that he had a little more than the academy. About this time, the Navy was attempting to construct its first nuclear-powered submarines. The program was headed by the brilliant, tough Captain Hyman Rickover. Today regarded as "the father of the nuclear Navy," Rickover was slight, intense and a demanding taskmaster. Carter was assigned to Rickover's research team, and the young lieutenant was pushed mercilessly by the uncompromising captainAnybody here been on a sub? I have very claustrophobic.

Lets do a little addition here counting the academy time he had about ten years in the military. Seems that the “gutless President “had more time in the military that the entire executive branch of the current administration doesn’t it? Of course that is not counting the former Secretary of State Colin Powell, who they fired because he couldn’t stomach the lies, and distortions of the truth.

Point two=Your words not mine, my favorite team right now is Edwards/Obama, but that is subject to change.

No matter the subject tree, you always find a childish way of bringing President Bush into it. Can't you let it go? Unless that is the topic of the thread? Please give it a rest.

As for Carter, maybe he's been drinking Billy Beer that he's had stashed since the 70's.
