Joe Reeve's WOT Timing Procedure - Question

I have a question on the Joe Reeves WOT Timing procedure. I am going to use it to time a 1975 135HP Johnson. The question is what do I do with the plugs on cylinders 2,3, and 4. Ground them to the block? Remove them from the boot?

Don't want to damage ignition components.

Advice would be appreciated it.

i rig a spark gap tester to all plugs, if that helps ?
