can anyone tell me the best way to repair the hull when it has been corroded through the hull?
i've cleaned all the corrosion away turning a pin hole into a 1/4 inch hole and the surrounding aluminum is thin. thanks for any help

Fiberglass it. Or rivet and seal an alluminum plate over the worn area. It wont be very pretty unless you paint. Make the plate eliptical with it placed lengthwise to the boat

thanks oddjob
i got myself in a hurry and made a move i've used a product made by devcon for metal (they have products for plastic also). it is a 2 part epoxy i think it is epoxy anyway ,i let it cure out for 18 hours as per the instructions i've cleaned around the damaged area down to bare alunium and aplied this product to top and botton. the area ia about 6" X 18" this product let me work it really smooth and alowed me to paint. i've had the boat out about 6 times now with no troubles. only once in really choppy water but it's holding up great so far. will keep all posted on how it preforms.

just an update on my patch, repair whatever you want to call it. i've had the boat out about 20 times now anywhere from an hour to 6 hours a trip. took it out today and beat the **** out of it. fully loaded too myself and my 4 children from 14-3 years old. and was out in it alone last week and did some serious wake-hopping in it (those big boats in the intercoastal waterway around here don't slow down for nobody.) anyway the repair is still holding up great took a good look at it today after it's 4 hour beating. no cracks still bonded to the aluminum. will post again after a few more beatings......... i am so abusive LOL

Short term, Marine-Tex. A 2-part epoxy that adheres to aluminum. www.marinetex.com Gray is for metal repairs. They make a product that can be applied underwater to repair holes in hulls. Supposedly, the repair is stronger than the aluminum. In the long term, I would go ahead and have the whole area removed and replaced with aluminum. A disadvantage is painting. Aluminum should be primed with zinc chromate primer. Not the epoxy. –joe
