I have installed a new plastic float in my 1951 Johnson 5hp, How is everyone handing securing the float to the circlip ? the cork float used a small wood screw. I think the inlet needle would need to be secured to float for proper height. I feel that the engine is not getting enough fuel on fast setting

The proper float adjustment is critical as you know. You must bend the metal float tang (do not press down on the float valve) until the float is parallel with the body casting.

Mine Is Not The Donut Shaped Float But The Cork Style Looks Like A Big Wine Bottle Cork

You got the black foam Mercury float, right? Simply put the wood screw in it like it was in the cork.

That is right the Merc float, didn't know if it was hollow or solid (foam filled)

I think there were some hollow ones made. Watch out for that.
