I Bought a 9' aluminum Seaking flatbottom boat this weekend with an older Johnson 1.5hp Outboard in like new condition for $250 the only problem is I drained the oil out of the shaft (lower screw) but now I can not find the top screw to see if it is full. I noticed there are four holes in the front of the shaft below the motor and when running the engine no water is coming out. Should there be?.

Bill

Re: Johnson 1.5 Gear Oil Screw

Hi, Bill.

:) I don't know what year your Johnny is, but I had a Johnny 2hp with only one screw on the gearcase.

You lay the engine on one side to drain it, and on the other side to fill. Yours may be similar.

You need to watch the exhaust to see if it is pumping water. It doewsn't have a telltale stream.

Good luck. :)
