I just bought a 1959 J10hp ,
model # QB-20.
http://boston.craigslist.org/sob/boa/920622786.html

Paid $150 .
Guy says it ain't been touched for over 15 years, probably needs coils.

What should I automatically replace or service before bothering to try starting it.

This is a kicker for my 20' CC.
Where can I buy a prop for it.?

i would change the lower unit oil, check the spark, compression, change the sparkplugs, inspect the water pump and install a new impeller and rebuild the carb. it wouldn't be a bad idea to spray a little premix into the cylinders before startup either to prevent any damage that could occur after sitting for15 years.

That's a good looking engine. Use 24:1 mix.

The props for the 1958-63 Johnson 10 and the 1964-73 9? will interchange. I think the latest versions of the 9? actually used lexan (plastic) props rather than aluminum. I'm thinking 3 blades, 8⅛"diameter, 8" pitch.

Yours is probably one of the last that used the 2-line pressurized tank. Did you get a tank with the motor?
