I'm rebuilding the powerhead on 1994 Johnson cross-flow 115. What is the best sealant to use on the crankcase? The manual I have suggests using Evinrude/Johnson Ge-Seal II on the flange or equivalent. What is a comparable equivalent? Any information would be appreciated.

Go to your local auto parts store and ask for anaerobic gasket maker. It's a red gel sealer. It's used for metal-to-metal surfaces. You know you got the right stuff if it smells like cherry's, that's my take on the stuff.

Any Bombardier dealer sell the gelseal for rebuidling these crossflow powerheads. Ask them for a tube of 324073. It's probably around $6 by now. One tube should do it.
