Hi everyone -

I have a Johnson 115 Seahorse motor.

When i pulled the engine casing off the motor i noticed
one of the four (i'm not sure of the proper name)
"things that the sparkplug wire comes out of" has started to melt.

I would say that this might be a problem - as the "wax"
flows out of the small black unit, the electronics might be exposed....

1) What are these things called?
2) Do i need to replace all of them at once, or can i do it one at a time

thanks
tony

Ignition coil is, I believe, the part your describing. If the potting material is melting out, replace the coil.

Okey dokey -

I'll try to source the parts...

thanks for the heads up

btw - tis there another place to find the motor year?
the metal stamp on the side has the numbers stamped
over top of each other, rendering them unable to be read.

thanks again for everyones help

take care

Depending on the year, there should be a welch plug on the top of the block's cylinder banks. It is round, convex, and about the size of a quarter It would have one or two sets of numbers.

If two, the first is the model number.
