I have a 1974 Johnson 115 outboard. This boat has been down for about 6 years. I recently tried to run it and could not get it to crank. After awhile I got it to run on a garden hose and then in the lake. But you could not throttle it up, it would die. I replaced all the fuel line and it cranks better but when you throttle on it, it just plows through the water, it will not increase in RPM'S. This boat was running fine when it was parked, but has always been hard to start until warmed up. Any thoughts, Thanks

More than likely plugged carbs, you need to read through the stickies at the top of the forum (waking a sleeping outboard, etc)... Plan on changing the water pump impeller also unless you want this outboards new life to be short lived....

Do a spark check to make sure you have strong fire on each plug wire. Fuel will dry up in a sitting carb. Dried fuel will clog the passages in the carbs and it will not run. You'll need to overhaul the carbs. Spray some aerosol carb cleaner through all the passages to make sure they are clear, then reassemble the carbs. Make sure you remove both the high speed and idle jets and check each to make sure they are open.

Thanks for the help. I had already cleaned the carbs and they did have trash in them. But the main promblem seems to be the CDI box it is only firing on two cylinders.

Thanks for all of the good help. The problem is with the firing it is only firing on two cylinders. Do you know where I can get a good buy on a CDI box Thanks.
