Johnson 120 hard to Start

I have a 1988 Johnson 120 hp
This spring I was having a hard time to start it. It would burp and puter then die.
I was told to remove the bottem screws on the carbs and pump fresh gae throuth them.

This worked for a while. I found the motoer would cough once and a while at higher speed.
I clean the carbs. No luck it won't start.

Any ideas out there??

welcome, did you do this? http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=244013? have you check spark on all 4 and compression? have you check the emergency kill lanyard? are you using old gas? we need more info.

What I did so far is

1. checked spark on all four Looks good
2. I removed the carbs and cleaned.
3, I connected a portable gas tank with good fresh gas
4 have not check compression yet

Could it be a problem with the VRO could it be getting to much oil?
