I rebuilt and reinstalled the water pump. About ?" of the water tube had eroded away. The pressure is holding at 10 psi. Water is coming out of the lower joint to mid section, which I assume it is some water is leaking past the tube.

The shop quote to replace the tube is $2,500. A silly question, does that quote seem reasonable?

They claim that the power head must be removed, leaving the rest on the engine.

Powerhead must be removed but that just means undoing about 10 bolts and replacing a $5 gasket plus the tube.
So no $2500 is not reasonable.
If you have an engine lifter or a pully you can do it yourself.
Ive lifted these off by myself by hand but i removed starter motor and flywheel first, it was heavy but i couldnt sort out somewhere to put a pulley onto

Would a plastic spacer similar to the piece coming off of the pump housing be a simple fix? glue it to the existing water tube? or extend the one on the pump housing to make up for the now shortened one

Try a different shop. That price is way out of whack. Where are you located ??

Morehead City, NC

I like Wayneo99's idea, but it seems so natural why isn't there a part available that is already extended? I might buy me the part that excepts the tube and do some experimenting.

Why don't you visit a plumbing shop that does a lot of work with copper tubing. They may be able to make you up a short extension that will fit over the bad part of the water tube and yet fit into the water pump housing. You may have to cut the water tube off some. This idea goes back to the '60's where they had water tube extensions for lengthening the lower unit shaft.
