I just replaced my 1987 Johnson 140 horse water pump impeller. Went to start the engine (first time this year) and gas was pouring out of the vro unit. Took it apart, cleaned off o-ring and put it back together. Installed the unit  with no leak this time when I squease the gas bulb. Engine started right up! About 30 seconds later, I get the no oil flow alarm (sounds for 1/2 second, off for 1/2 second, etc.). I cut the engine, squeased the bulb for the oil and tried again. Started right up, 30 seconds get the alarm. What am I doing wrong? What is the correct way to reinstall the vro and get it functioning again?

Have a 1985 140hp with VRO. Have had no issues with it to date. Just a thought but are you "sucking air" somewhere instead of oil ????

On another note, there are all kinds of VRO articles and discussion available out here. I think there is something in the frequently asked questions.
