engine model
Johnson 140ML77S 140hp

we are having a few problems with the coils on a friends 140hp johnson, year 1977.

the coils have gone past their sell by date as the wires to them are breaking up and corroding.

can i put coils from say a 1990's engine on this engine or is their going to be any problems in doing this.
i have a few spare coils and wondered if it would be ok to fit these to the johnson.

If you order replacement coils from a Bombardier dealer, you will get the newer, superceded part number. They will look a little different, but will bolt in place and work well. Yes, they will look like the ones on a 1990's engine.

so no damage to any of the other electrics if i try some of the spare 1990's ones i have lying around.

the old coil wires have just corroded far too much and one of them is so bad the wire is broken and rotten.
yet the engine still runs ,but obviously a misfire here and there.

will be digging out the coils and swapping them over now, see if the old girl likes a bit more spark chucked at her.

to look at the engine you would not believe how it now fires up and runs.
we are gonna have to be changing all the wiring sooner or later as its just had its day and realy needs every wire replacing.

this is something we can do easily enough, and it can be done while the boat is also getting a full make over.

thanks for info on the coils emdsapmgr
