Hey all. I just got an outboard + boat for $50 and I need some help. So, I am driving it back to my house and the engine cuts out after about 15 min. of driving. I try to start it again and it refuses to do so. I try the primer bulb and it was firm and everything like that. I manage to get back to the dock. I take the motor off of the boat and bring it up to my house and it still refuses to start. Sorry about not having the model number and ser. number and will get them ASAP. Thanks so much.

Have yo checked for spark fuel and compression since it quit? Obviously if you had spark fuel and compression you would have a motor that would start. We need model and serial number to help you.

What is the history of the fuel that was in the tank when you picked it up?

it basically sounds like your carb is dirty,as you were running it ,it probably got that last piece that killed it.If it wasnt used for a while ,those little carbs ,have little passages that plug up.Start by pulling the carb apart, get a good carb solution at an auto store ,,soak it ,then blow through all passages ,be sure your gas is clean, your hoses are flushed along with the fuel pump, squeeze fresh gas through before installing carb.If it wasnt run for a yr or so,change the waterpump impeller, those impellers seperate from the center hub and then you over heat, also change the lowerunit gear oil.Thats about the best I can give you based on what you say.
