johnson 15 slips out of gear @ WOT

Johnson 15 slips into neutral, runs the RPMs way up and shuts off. won't restart b/c it thinks it's still in gear until you fiddle with the linkage. (this as dewscribed to me by owner). Looks like a 70's vintage motor. Thoughts? Anyone seen this and know a specific place to look at to fix?

PS we are on an island now; might be a long trip to shore if we don't get it fixed!

sounds like bad clutch dog. or shift linkage adjustment.
