johnson 150 1985 storage

I have a 1985 johnson 150 that is going to be stored for a year without being run. I have no wear to put it inside so unfortunatley. I need to know what it is there is I need to do to the motor so that way when I get back from overseas I can get it running easly.

if using built in tank, use a 6gallon tank with seafoam treatment added, run it thru the engine, shut engine down. add seafoam the built in tank, to preserve fuel in tank. remove plugs and spray fogging oil in cylinders, replace plugs, change lower unit oil, cover boat and engine, allowing air to circulate. you can put a lot moth balls in the boat to keep vermin from making it a residence. good luck.

You are in a salty, salt water environment where freezing is not unusual. I would do the following items in addition to the fogging:

Use your grease gun to grease all of the fittings on the swivel tube and tilt tube;

Store the engine in the tilted down, running position;

Grease the trim rods and fully withdraw them into the cylinders;.

Grease the steering ram;

If at all possible, empty the fuel tank. If not, use a fuel extender that is made specifically for that purpose. See a dealer for that;

Make sure that your anodes are in good shape and use an ohm meter to be sure that they have good contact;

Take the battery out of the boat and store it inside if possible. If you can, find someone to trickle charge it every 30 days or so;

Remove the prop and heavily grease the shaft before replacing;

Spray the engine with an anti-corrosive such as T-9 Boeshield; and,

Use liquid tape or a similar protection on as many exposed wiring unions as possible.
