I have recently purchased a cajun with a johnson <br />150 ocean runner 96 model. I have heard many stories about the oil injection going out and not alerting until it's to late. should I disable the injection and pre mix??? I saw one post about a yammy and it was not recommended. what should I do? and if premix is the way to go what is the ideal mix. 50:1???? please help I don't want engine trouble. thanks

Re: johnson 150 oil injection

Hi Honda....you'll get a lot of pros and cons on the VRO (oil injection system) Lot of guys have no faith in them and others won't be without. The early VRO sysems had a lot of troubles, mainly not being able to warn the owner of impending problems. The later versions are much more reliable with three separate alarms just for the pump. My opinion only here, the VRO is the way to go. The variable rate oiling will help keep carbon deposits down and help the engine run a little more efficently over it's operating range. If you have doubt's, take the rig to your friendly neighborhood mech and have the system and alarms checked out. If it is a concern and you decide to not use the system, oil mix should be 50:1 with a top shelf TCW-3 oil. Your mech can show you how to set the engine up for gas mixing. Couple alarms need disconnected when VRO is not used. Hope we've helped. :D
