Hi folks, I have 2001 Johnson 150. After we changed the water pump, we developed a loud bang or kick in the engine, it actually feels like the engine is hitting a tree stump or submerged object and it kicks or bangs. Below 1400 RPM it happens infrrequently, at 1400RPM it happend every 14 seconds or so, the higher the RPMs the more frequently it happens. The engine is not missing, so don't think it's electical, it lasts only a fraction of a second when it does happen. We changed out the prop, thinking the prop hub was bad - but no change. Then, We thot we turned the shift rod, when doing the water pump change, so we pulled the lower unit and adjusted the shift rod so we just engage reverse - thinking we would have full forward. No go, still does it. Read in these forums it might be the "clutch dogs" - Anyone have any ideas??? Also, if it clutch dogs, are they hard to replace for someone w/ some mechanical ability??
Thanks - appreciate any ideas on what to do next...

Clutch dog and fwd gear are shot. OEM manual explains how to do it.

If you had no problem before the water pump
repair and now it jumps out of gear, I think
that I would set the shift rod height per OEM
service Manuel.
After shaft adjustment adjust shift cable.
If you had the throttle and shift cable adjustment
cover off and installed it upside down it will limit
the forward shift cable travel.
