please can someone tell me where to find the timing marks on the flywheel of my 75hp 1965 v4 Johnson. This baot has been sitting forten years and I changed the belt and would like to set the timming but not sure where the mark on the flywheel is? I know where the marks are located on the detributer. There is a letter N stamped on the top of the flywheel but not sure if this is the right mark? With a screwdriver in the cylinder and the mark lined up with the stamped N on flywheel the piston still has a ways to go befor it is at TDC could be the right mark ??

Rocketman
The flywheel has a cast in "line" under the starter ring gear. The block, actually the bolted on piece that covers the top of the block between the cylinders, has a cast in "line". These line up about where the flywheel mark and the belt running toward the flywheel meet. The distributor pulley has a marked tooth and there is a cast in "line" on the distrib. bracket, these line up but all 4 marks do not line together, 2 pair lined up at the same time. Points at .020, plugs at .030. Distrib. pulley should have a washer under the "star" lock washer to keep it from "eating" into the pulley, check for worn keyways in the pulley and distrib. shaft.
Backfire ;)
