Welcome to Iboats, silron!

If you can't draw a 3/8" arc off the spark plug lead, then something is wrong with the ignition system. Up underneath the flywheel is the three electrical components of the ignition system; a coil, a condensor and a point. You're going to need to pull the flywheel to inspect.
To remove the flywheel, you're going to need a puller that works on the three bolt holes in the top of the flywheel. An automotive harmonic balancer puller with three 1/4"-20 tpi bolts works well for this. Just don't use a puller that works on the edges - it'll destroy the flywheel. Examine the coil for cracks in the insulation, and clean the point face. The point should be adjusted to open .020" max.

You're going to want a service manual. Iboats sells them, and you can even get the original factory ones:
TheOutboardWizard
Mastertech
Marine Engine
Ken Cook
If you want to get the engine going without investing any money in it, you may also be able to borrow a service manual from your local library. Most have something of use.

Tell us what you find under there!
Hi, Silron.

Check out "Outboard wont start" in the Engine FAQ section. That should narrow it to a part of the system.

Let us know what you find.
