Evening all,
I have started the boat periodically through the winter here in NC, so it isn't all that cold here through the winter. It always would start and run and idle great with some coaxing from the choke. Boat ran great all last summer. Fully rebuilt carbs with a new regulator/rectifier installed from CDI.
Put the batteries back into it this afternoon. Cleaned all the wire contacts for the battery connections really good as well as the battery terminals. Fully charged batteries. Boat starts right up and runs great.
Things of concern;
1. At first start up, tach would not work. Let it run for about 3 - 4 minutes. Water temp gauge was working fine. Checked voltage at battery, only reading about 12.82. The engine would never come off of fast idle,
2. I shut it down waited about 10 seconds it started right up. Idled fine at 1200 - 1100. The tach jumped right up to 11 - 1200. Still never came off of fast idle even after about 10 minutes or so. I was reading about 13.1 volts at the battery. But now the water temp gauge will not register. Shut it down again.
3. Start it up again, starts right up, runs great, but will not come off of fast idle at about 11 - 1200 rpm. no water temp reading on the gauge and back to 12.82 volts on the battery.
The battery reads 12.93 when the engine is off. Both of them.
Any ideas why the motor will not come off of fast idle?
Last summer when my tach failed, so did the ability to charge by batteries. My regulator rectifier was toast. Now the tach works, but I don't think I'm charging, by only seeing 12.82 volts at the battery while running. Which leads from the rectifier can I check for maybe a faulty connection?
Why would my temp gauge work and then stop? Is there a sending unit on the motor head maybe I need to clean?
Thanks
Sid
