Johnson 1996 25hp low power WOT

Took boat out first time the other day. Idles good but does not seem to open up all the way. Never could get it to plane out. Engine has set for two or more years. Did not change plugs or do anything to the carb, is this the problem more than likely, and is it easy to rebuild this carb. Also are carb rebuild kits all the same, one better than the other?

Check spark and compression on each cylinder...if fine, you're probably due for a carb rebuild.

Are you using "fresh" fuel?

Also, check pump fuel bulb to see if rpms increase...if so look to your fuel pump.

Clean your carbs and you will be OK, since it sat for that long with the fuel in it, also change the fuel in the tank and lines as well.

No kits required unless you tear something, have carb cleaner and compressed air handy, just disassemble and clean it, when you remove the jets, you will see the problem, they will more than likely have boogers in them.
