my Johnson 1998 50 spl is leaking at the bottom through a hose and clicking alot. Do these units click from flow problems due to bad hoses? I appears that I was getting too much oil as it was coming out of the exaust and dripping out from under the vro.

what motor? i would replace with straight fuel pump, and premix, rather than spend +- $350 for a new VRO.

Re: Johnson 1998 VRO clicking

A fuel restriction will cause the pump to work hard causing it to click loudly and often. A fuel restriction will also cause the pump to send more oil, possibly saving the powerhead. However, oil leaking from the pump is not a good sign. Find the leak, hopefully it's from a loose hose connection.

Keep in mind that 1998 motors did not come with VRO pumps. Calling them that creats confusion - as you can see. That motor came with the OMS system. A very good system.

I replaced the hoses for the oil injector and fuel pump, also replaced the clamps. Adjusted the lean/rich by a quarted turn in, no more clicking!
