Hello All,
I have Johnson 2004 150HP outboard model J150PXSRB. The last two times I have been out in recent weeks the engine has run rough or quit at times during idle and this phenomenon seems to be getting worse. When it does this I have tried to put it in neutral and rev up the engine and it will have no power and seems to be sucking as it quits. After it dies, it will always instantly start back up and if I quickly put in gear and get going the engine runs fine at any increased throttle.
I changed the Johnson metal type fuel filter canister mounted on the boat around 6 months ago and just checked the fine screen filter on the engine and it was fine. I purchased the boat almost one year ago have kept Sta-bil in the fuel and understand that the previous owner did also but, there may have been a time when the previous owner did not use the boat for a time for personal issues. Also, I have used Chevron 87 octane ever since I have owned the boat and have probably use several hundred gallons.
I am wondering if there is a low speed jet that is getting blocked at times by a piece of varnish and if so, what is the best way to clear the varnish.
Your input is always greatly appreciated, thanks Gary
