Re: johnson 225 vro low water pickup nose cone
Bobs machine shop-bigfoot
Ive owned several types of theirs the sportmans look alike goes to about 1 in of pad the big foot goes to pad and some beyond.
You will find with a big foot it normally goes and keeps psi above what a standard prop will operate at ,thus having to send props off to get more cup added on many brands,or slip occurs.
On a hefty jaguar boat 22 ft a tro4 27p gripped to about 2 in of pad ,a reworked shooter 27p (OMC) went to 1 in of pad ,on a lil allison 2002 1/2 pf pad for both, would grip higher just not safe on an ally as has a built in turn upon blowout.
29 merc chopper repitched to 28 ran to pad level,200 hp omc outboards.
What a low water nose cone does combined with a jackplate does not raise speed due to aerodynamics it permits one to run a prop higher and thus more rpm thus larger wheels, thus more speed.
Keeping an eye on psi as raised my omc I dont go under 18 as in a turn lose a tad,Im also hydraulic jackplate eq so can take advantage of the very last bit,on a manual one sets it at optimal handling not top end.
Over a stock setup 5 mph gain easily on big motors, other advantages shallower running,as higher up.
