Howdy, SB.

Those must be leftover '99 engines. Bombardier honors warranty on engines made after that, but not on the engines made earlier.

There have been some examples of poor quality control on both Johnson and Evinrude engines made in the last couple of years before OMC went under. (My son-in-law's '98 Ficht 150 just blew up last week).

The JohnnyRudes made by Bomb. seem to be better than ever.

With no warranty, I would want to know the year of manufacture and I would want a HUGE discount from list price. . . or I would pass and look at a new, warranted engine.

Good luck. :)

That is a very good price, SmallBlock.

If you are willing to "self insure" yourself against major failures it is hard to recommend that you pass on it.

Good luck :)

small block,

I'm with you on that being a bit scary. I'm not a big fan of aftermarket warranties, however for a couple hundred bucks you can probably buy one. You'll still be way ahead of the game. That is a GOOD price.

Those 3-cylinder 25's run real smooth. As Clanton stated, some oil pump issues... I wouldn't let that alone dissuade me from buying, but (although I normally don't do this) I strongly recommend disconnecting the oil mixer on that one, that's a good price.

Richmond, VA eh?? - Ed's Marine Super Store by any chance??? Triple check your sales contract/agreement and make them open the box and VERIFY you've got everything specified BEFORE YOU LEAVE THEIR PREMISIS, or you may never see any missing items.

-John

Re: johnson 25hp 3cyl

thanks everyone for their replys.john you got it right on the head! eds marine is just 1 mile down the road from my house, hows that for a locsl dealer i can walk there.how do you know of these guys?ive always heard they were on of the largest dealers on the east coast thats cool that youve heard of them out in ill.when you say unhook the oil mixer do you mean the mixer that mixes the oil and fuel?and then just run the motor on premixed fuel?i plan on buying a 17 foot carolina skiff to put this motor on.i know i need a little more hp to plane this boat with 50% on the boats alotted cargo weight.however most of the time it will be just my wife and my 2 and a half year old son on the boat so speed is not a big issue in my case.this is to be my first new boat/motor i have ever bought.i just want something reliable .thanks again smallblock :)

They have a reputation for, well, let's just say not doing the right thing for some of their customers. It gives the appearance they're only interested in the sale. I know a guy who bought a 70 horse from them - sales agreement listed a prop included - salesman tells him "...The prop's in the crate w/ engine" - gets home & sets the engine up the following morning - no prop - goes back, salesman tells him "You signed for it, sorry not our problem..." If you're looking for the lowest price on a motor, they probably have it, because they are a very large hi-volume dealer, just make sure you C.Y.A. before you leave with your purchase. I've also heard a couple of horror stories from their service department too. I am in no way suggesting you not do business with them, just go in there with both eyes open and don't take anyone's word that "it's in the box".

And yes, I am saying disconnect the oil mixer and run pre-mix.

-John
