I just bought a 1999 Johnson 30 hp, model J30ELSSR from a local marine dealer.
Two questions:
1. The dealer did not give me an ignition key. I'm hoping that they find it, but just in case and to try it in the meantime, can anyone tell me which wires in the wiring at the controls are for what functions? The control box that mounts next to the steering wheel has a six wire plug and a three wire plug . Which wires are for the ignition start, run, and choke? And what are the other wires for?
2. The above mentioned six and three wire plugs fit corresponding plugs on the harness from the motor.
In addition, the motor has an eight wire plug and a four wire plug (I think it has four wires) and about half a dozen individual wires coming off the motor. Are any of these wires essential to the operation of the motor? What is their function? Are all these for non-essential gauges that I won't need to have?
If anyone has a schematic or other information that they can post or send by PM, I would also greatly appreciate this.
