Just renewed the waterpump on my 96 Johnson 30. If you turn the plastic housing that holds the cup upside down there is a seal a bit like an oring that fits in a slot, it is curved with a branch in it, it fits in a corresponding slot in the plastic outside the cup. On the old housing the seal was a nice tight fit like an oring in a slot as I thought it should be. The seal that came with the new kit is a sloppy fit (and I mean really sloppy in the corresponding channel new plastic housing. I reassembled the pump with the new parts I haven't fitted the gear case back to the motor, but this sloppy seal is worrying me. Smeared some grease on it so it stayed put when Inverted the pump housing and fitted it over the shaft, but in the back of my mind it is worrying me that it was such a poor fit. Is my worrying needless??

sure but this thing was like a rat turd in a violin case. I removed the housing and took a look and it is still looking that way

Put the new or the old oring in using 3M 847 sealer and it will stay.
