Johnson 30hp wont shift after changing water pump

I changed my water pump in my 1992 30hp tiller. Now it wont shift its in one of the gears the flywheel turns when I turn the prop. I did accidently remove the screw beside the drain plug for the shift pivot I got it back in with a pick and it tightens normally but the shift rod wont move with the pivot screw in? Im lost why cant anything ever just work out? Any ideas?

Not that hard to remove the propshaft bearing housing to get that pin in the right place.---Always ask or consult a manual.

Is that the only way ? And if the pin goes back in mabey its something else??????

Think I would remove the pivot pin again, and try to reinsert it in that shift lever and cradle assembly. It's been a while, but guessing the cradle probably isn't positioned quite right at the clutch dog. Pick or finishing nail is the right idea (maybe a beer and some extra patience). Might get lucky on the second try -- can always pull it apart if you finally need to do that. JMO.

Usually make that pivot pin mistake only once, so you're golden.
