Good day all,

Hoping to solve some problems with my engine as i'm new to outboards. First thing Its very smoky! I ran the engine first time out with some oil also in the fuel tank which the manual said you could do. Since then its been very smoky. 2 Stroke oil seems to drip down the casing after the engine has been stopped. No 2 Ran the engine again the other day with clean fuel, 99ron and it worked fine but after about an hour the engine seemed to mis a cylinder every few seconds, Could this be too much oil in the clyinder? Then i got home and tried to start engine to run fresh water though and it wouldn't start! cranks over but very weak. Also the engine check system doesn't work so not sure if this is related to the problems. Any ideas on this problems would be great

These are supposed to have oil in the fuel a 50:1 mix. I am not familiar with all the models, but does this have a separate tank for oil and it mixes itself? If so then adding oil to the gas along with the oil in the tank mixing would make it smoky, but not hurt it. However, if you ran straight gas with no oil mixing at all you have probably ruined the motor. If it cranks over weak have you checked the charge of the battery?

Thanks for quick reply, yes it does have a separate oil tank under the cover the oil in the tank was additional. When I ran it the other day it was very smoky at start up I mean a large cloud of white smoke but once warm this cleared but then the oil still dripped out of the casing once the engine had stopped.

Hi again, yeah checked the battery and also tried it with my car. Seems strange the starter brushes or solinoid would go since they where both working a couple of hours before

check and clean the battery connections first. The oil dripping is unburned oil from the exhaust. Two cycles use oil in the gas to lube the motor. Not all of it is burned and will result in an oily discharge.

Thanks for that the connections are clean and i'm waiting for new brushes, if that don't work i'm going to replace solinoid. Any ideas on how i go about checking where the fault is on my "System Check" system. There are no lights or anthing on system the only thing that works is the trim indicator

Question 1, About the powerbox on the port side of the engine is it possible to check if this is working correctly?

question 2, I found a tube disconected from the air box would this cause a build up of 2 stroke oil around the front end of the engine?

Question 3, anybody know how to test the johnson "system check" stuff i'm getting no horns or lights however i know the system works because the 2 stroke oil box ran low and the engine wouldn't rev. put 2 stoke in and away it went again.
