Johnson 35HP slows during the day

I have a Johnson 35HP that slows during the day. When I start off the boat goes well up on a plane, yet coming home later in the day it seems like it's just barely on plane. Any ideas? I've noticed it several times (different days).

Is it overheating at all?

is it running any different. are you sure the boat is not taking on water.

It's not overheating and it may have a gallon or two of water that it took on. It's a 14ft fiberglass boat.
